Eddy Senay – Step By Step (1973)

Personal Note: Representing the sound of the Motor City comes the 2nd drop from Detroit’s very own funk guitar axeman, Eddy Senay. Although Eddy was labelmate to the fuzz guitar great Dennis Coffey on the Sussex label, Their styles were distinctly different. Coffey’s playing was more in a psychedelic vein while Senay’s was more of an instrumental jazz with a cool and easy going type appeal that was very close to that of Westbound label’s Donald Austin.
Detroit was a powerhouse staple for funk in the 70’s on the Sussex, Hot Wax & Westbound labels all of which enjoyed moderate success before folding in the mid-late 70’s.
